Amazon taketh away, then giveth back a little

Amazon's decision to summarily cancel the order of Lisp in Small Pieces and the other tech books priced at $3.95 CDN irked me a little. Yeah, it seemed too good to be true, so I guess I wasn't shocked that it was "displayed at the incorrect price", as stated in their rejection letter. Still, I have a hard time believing that red flags weren't raised sooner than they were. At the very least, someone with some influence at Amazon must have heard about the story from Reddit or Digg. Maybe they didn't care to say anything.

At least Amazon was nice enough to include $10 gift certificates with the notification that my books had been cancelled &mdash well after I noticed they were removed from my order, of course. I used those to get The LaTeX Companion, but I expect that will the be last book I buy from them for a little while.

Their policy is quite clear on this, but that doesn't make the taste in my mouth any less bitter. Methinks I'll be cruising AbeBooks for my next purchases...

Atleast they gave you a certificate. They just told me that its their policy. policy to destroy hopes and dreams?

Maybe a bit too dramatic.

I had a copy ordered too and got the notice. Pricing is a mysterious thing: their prices change constantly, and due to overstocks sometimes items get dumped at surprisingly low prices. This did seem a bit too good to be true, though. Oh, well.
